BRAND NEW FORMAT PLUS NEW STARTERS GO FREE OFFER
Last updated: Thu, 02-Sep-2010
BRAND NEW FORMAT PLUS
NEW STARTERS GO FREE OFFER
THIS THURSDAY 19TH AUGUST!
Yes, it’s true; New Starters can have a FREE salsa lesson at the launch of the All New everybodysalsa Thursday night salsa club THIS Thursday 19th August 2010!
In an effort to help make our club even more enjoyable and customer friendly, Thursday 19th August 2010 marks the date when the everybodysalsa Thursday night salsa club takes on a BRAND NEW FORMAT! (See table above). To help celebrate the change, and for one night only, all New Starters will be allowed FREE entry! So why not invite your friends for a free night out J
Exciting changes to the old format include:
*Swapping the times of the classes around, to allow experienced Improvers, the opportunity to have a go at the more exciting Intermediate class and assess if they are ready to move up yet!
*Intermediate level dancers will be pleased to know that the new format means no more sitting around after your class, waiting for the freestyle session to begin J
*Another customer friendly move includes inserting an extra freestyle session between the classes. This change allows both the less experienced dancer’s time to practice your new skills immediately after your class, whilst at the same time providing an extra freestyle session for the more advanced dancers before your class!
*Teachers, or experienced dancers, will also be available for Beginners and Improvers to help you revisit key aspects of your class, at the same time as the Intermediate class is buzzing away, so there’s no chance of anybody getting bored waiting for the freestyle club to start after the classes J
How friendly are you? I would also like to invite all of our more experienced dancers to show what a friendly lot we are, by making the extra effort to ask less experienced people to dance during the two freestyle sessions, (especially if you see them sitting on their own), as this is so helpful for building their confidence and helps speed up development for them to join you in your own class.
*The entrance price remains unchanged at just £5.50 for class and club, or £3.50 for club only.
I hope that you’ll all find the new format more enjoyable, and if you would like to talk about anything, just give me a call on 01733 344934.
*And don’t forget, with FREE entry this Thursday, there’s never been a better time to try salsa dancing, so tell your friends to come and see why we love it!
Happy dancin’

Casino Rueda at the MOJO tonight
Last updated: Thu, 05-Aug-2010
WOT’S ON TONIGHT - Thursday 29-7-10
Casino Rueda at the MOJO Tonight
In addition to the New Starters classes 1 and 2, which will go ahead as usual, there will be a change to our usual format at 7.30pm -
Tonight everybodysalsa will be holding a class in Casino Rueda.
I know that many of you are already well aware of this dance, but for the benefit of those of you who are not yet clear, here’s a rough description:
Rough Description: Casino Rueda is a form of salsa dancing which originated in Havana, Cuba. The dance involves couples dancing in a large circle and carrying out various synchronised moves together.
Casino Rueda is usually danced at a slower pace than your usual salsa class, however it also involves a lot of changing partners, which adds to the excitement/complication and needs to be done it time with the other members of your circle.
Each move is called, by the ‘Caller’, just before the members of the circle put said move into action.
Each move is given a Spanish name and for the Leads, progress can be as much about remembering what each name means, as it is about being able to carry out that move itself!
Note: It is normal to get a move slightly wrong at first – so if/when this happens to you, it’s important to remember that you are operating as a cog in a dancing machine, so, DON’T STOP!
It’s essential to keep moving with the group, so even if you have missed out a move here and there, make sure you change partners in time to keep the pattern of the dance.
The class is good for experienced salsa dancers - minimum level (3) So to make sure that nobody misses out, there will also be classes in Cross-body salsa for New starters at 8.30pm J

A Shelter box, what’s that?
Last updated: Thu, 11-Feb-2010
A Shelter box, what’s that?
I feel sure that like us your hearts have gone out to all those thousands of people left homeless, bereaved and in great need in Haiti, following the huge earthquake. And maybe like us you have wondered what, if anything you can do that might help in any way.
Well a couple of everybodysalsa dancers have been making a lot of effort to do just that and have inspired us to help too: Margaret and Chris Hayes, who dance regularly on Wednesday’s in March and who never miss an everybodysalsa party, have been busy raising funds to buy a Shelter box, to send.
A shelter box is a container, containing a 12 person tent, plus a lot of essential equipment to enable those sheltering in the tent to survive during the chaotic weeks and months ahead.
Here in Margret’s words, is an outline of what they have achieved so far:
These cost £490 including despatch. With the help of our amazing family and friends we managed to get the funds together within a week for one box. We are now a week and a bit later and our total has reached £938 (including Gift Aid which does not get included on our front page target figure) so just £42 away from funding a second box.
Margaret
P.S. This is the original email that I sent to family and friends:-
You all know what I’m like for worrying, so here’s my latest action which I hope will help the Haiti survivers. I’m pretty sure you will have already donated but I’m going to pester you again…. And I’m going to pester my family, friends and colleagues too. The boys are both ‘on board’ and should be pounding their friends too. If you want to pass details on to anyone who you think might have a bob or two to spare, please go ahead.
I’ve been sitting at home here fretting about the Haiti disaster, as I do, and feel rather inadequate as an individual wondering what I can do. Aren’t we fortunate to have a roof over our heads, water on tap and food in the cupboard but one of our greatest blessings are our family and friends.
We’ve all heard about the earthquake and you’ve probably picked up the phone or made a donation already but I’d like to co-ordinate our family and friends and see if we can raise sufficient funds for a Shelter Box www.shelterbox.org Initially I thought I was setting the bar rather high but, upon investigation, at £490 per box including despatch, I don’t think it is such a task. So perhaps we can go for two!
Chris and I first saw these boxes on display at our local carnival with the Rotary Group of the Deepings. Chris has spent more than a few nights under canvas with Scouts and was impressed with the quality and adaptations that are available for use in different scenarios. We thought we’d like to get involved then – but “didn’t get round to it”. Well now we’re having a go.
We’d like to get at least one ShelterBox off to Haiti as soon as possible.
To raise funds
- We’re not climbing a mountain - but happy to do so
- We’re not abseiling down a wall – but happy to do so
- We’re not running a marathon – but willing to give it go (well perhaps a half marathon, let’s be real about this!)
- We’re not having anything sponsored – well, not yet anyway!
Instead we’re sitting at our keyboard contacting family, close and long-lost friends in the hope that, between us, we can send a ShelterBox to Haiti.
If only 49 of us donate a tenner each we will have raised the money for one box but £10 is just a suggestion, smaller amounts will of course be very welcome, as will larger amounts of course!
With best wishes from Margaret, Chris, David & Simon
If like us you feel inspired to join in this one family relief effort, simply visit the website above. Or e-mail us and we will be happy to forward your e-mails to Margaret and Chris,
Best wishes, Pattie and Alan

Over the years, we have answered many very good questions relating to our classes and courses, here are a few frequently answered questions:
Q1. I have never danced before, would this course be too difficult for me?
A1. This course is designed for non dancers and dancers alike to progresses at a pace that we have found suits the vast majority of New Starters that we have instructed. So please don’t worry, we will take good care of you.
Q2 I’d love to be able to dance, but Have got two left feet and don’t want to embarrace myself, what can I do?
A2 Here at everybodysalsa.com we believe that if you can walk, you can learn to dance. So even if you have tried to dance before and given up, there is still hope. We realize that it can take a lot of courage to try something new and we take this into account with our teaching style and the pace of our lessons. If you are still uncertain if this course is for you, why not give me, Alan on 01733344934, or e-mail everybodysalsa@hotmail.com
Q3 I’d love to learn to dance salsa, but do I need a partner to come with me?
A3 everybodysalsa.com courses are designed to be user friendly and accessible to as many people as possible, so individual people are as welcome as couples and groups to join this course. It is worth mentioning that salsa is a partner dance and we try to attract as many Men as Women.
Q4 I dance modern jive and would like to try salsa, what is the difference between the two dances?
A4 Modern jive and salsa share many similar upper body moves and so can appear similar to the untrained eye. The main difference between the two dances is in the footwork. Salsa requires quite sophisticated, disciplined footwork, compared to modern jive and is dance to a four beat rhythm, over two bars. Salsa dancers also incorporate either a pause, tap, or kick on every 4th and 8th beat.
Another difference between modern jive and salsa is that following a movement, the jive dancing couple, tend to pull back from each other, before progressing to the next movement, where as salsa dancers pull in close together, which enables the salsa dancers to incorporate more moves within the same time frame.
Thank You Merry Christmas

And now for something completely dIffErEnT!
Last updated: Thu, 07-Jan-2010
Only4everybodysalsa dancing days left before Christmas!!
It’s true, badly true! And it’s all happening so quickly!
Our last salsa night before the holiday will be Monday 22nd December, so make sure you get enough salsasize before eating all those mince pies!!
And now for something completely dIffErEnT!
Monday and Thursday club’s will run as usual in the run up to Christmas, with the addition of a little bit of tinsel and a few choc’s! However dancers planning on attending the last Wednesday club of the year can expect something completely different, as we will be dancing in a completely new venue!!
That’s right, the Wednesday night club will be held in ‘Club Q’, 86 High Street, March, PE15 9LD, (it’s next to Casanos), and not at the GER as usual! There are no parking restrictions on the High Street, so just park as near to the club as you can ;)
So why not come out and see what you think of the place, as we are planning to hold our next intensive workshop here too, in the New Year :)
The next intensive workshop will take place at Club Q, 86 High Street, March, PE15 9LD, on Saturday 17th January 2009
INTENSIVE SALSA WORKSHOP
11am to 3pmSATURDAY 17th January 2009
2 x 2 hour intensive salsa master classes for:
Beginners – 11am to 1pm
Improver/Intermediate–1.30pm to 3.30pm
Investment per class: £15
This event, the first everybodysalsa.com Intensive workshop for 12 months, will take place at Club ‘Q’, 86 Main Street March, PE159LP, on Saturday 17th January 2009
This workshop will be taken exclusively by Pattie Amos (UKA) and Alan Bull (UKA) and is designed for dancers who wish to improve their skills and technique, including those who are considering the possibility of moving up to the next level.
Numbers of Men and Women will again be restricted per class and we expect that most, if not all places will be taken before the event, as was the case last time!
In a departure from previous workshop’s, we will be holding a class, designed to appeal to dancers in both the Improver’s and Intermediate classes, as well as the more traditional Beginners class :)
HOW TO BOOK YOUR PLACE: As from Monday 15th December 2008, a form will be available at the reception, at every everybodysalsa.com weekly club and you will be able to book your place, simply by entering your name, current class. Please also provide your e-mail address, or mobile number, (in case there are any last minute changes) and we will need your payment of £15 before we can book you in ;)
Sorry to everyone in the Starters Plus classes, who have expressed an interest, but we only have enough energy for two consecutive, two hour sessions :(and we did feature your class last time, at the expense of the Improver’s. The good news is, that your class will feature in the next workshop that we intend to hold later in the year :)
Two hour intensive workshops are by nature, more demanding than your usual 50 minute class, which is why New Starters classes are not included.
EVERYBODYSALSA.COM INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS – A ROUGH GUIDE:everybodysalsa intensive workshops are designed to provide you with increased teacher/pupil ratio, over a considerably longer period than your usual weekly class, which allows you and your teacher enough one to one time, to make adjustments to your dancing and to reinforce the changes, which increases your chances of retaining the new information. Your class will take place in a quiet, friendly and informal atmosphere and will be split into two sessions, with one 15 minute break between. Light refreshments will be provided and there is a free car park by the Police station, which is a short distance from the venue. For more information about this event, simply e-mail to info@everybodysalsa.com, call me, (Alan) on 01733344934, or come over and have a chat with either Pattie, or me at any of our weekly club’s :)
Great NEW Venue for Monday evening's salsa club
Last updated: Thu, 07-Jan-2010
Great NEW Venue for Monday evening's salsa club
Monday night’s just got better :) everybodysalsa.com have secured a great new venue - Fletton Ex-serviceman’s Club, 243A Fletton High Street, Fletton, Peterborough, PE2 9EH.
The friendly Fletton club management have been very helpful in offering the venue at very short notice, since Edwards new manager rather abruptly ended 3 ½ years of salsa there on Monday 9th March.
The Fletton venue allows us our own large room, with a large seating area, a stage and a dance floor, better than the one at Edwards! There is plenty of FREE road side parking and you can expect a nice surprise when it comes to buying drinks, because the clubs non profit making, status is reflected in the price of the drinks! So why not pop along next Monday and tell us what you think?

Thank’s very much to the everybodysalsa dance display team who performed, for the first time, their new multi dance routine, which was the first time that several people had apeared dancing on stage! And thank's also to everyone who came along to help us with leafleting etc at the March Festival last Saturday – especially Nigel and Paul, who did such an excellent job, creating the float. The wooden flooring was very good indeed, making it just possible to dance on whilst being driven through the streets of March, (including roadworks, reverse cambers and sharp bends)! Pattie found the experience very moving!! (see photos on the Gallary page)

Tanya was born and grew up in Colombia, South America, where she trained in theatre, classical ballet and folk dance at the Academia de Ballet Allegro and later joined the Ballet Nacional de Colombia in Bogota.
After leaving the company in 1985 she traveled to the UK were she was offered a place at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. After 4 years of study she achieved a BA in Performing Arts, which she passed with distinction.
She was co-founder and co-director of the Northern Dance Company, her choreographic work would prove to be a stalwart for the repertoire, and was described as fascinating, colorful and passionate. Being from the land of salsa, she was already bringing a distinctly South American feel to her work.
She then worked as a freelance dancer/performer/teacher/choreographer all over the country and abroad with a variety of theatre directors and choreographers on individual projects.
Meanwhile she taught and performed Colombian popular dance styles like salsa, mambo, cumbia and others at venues across the country, but particularly in Leeds and the Yorkshire region.
In 1995 she joined Tutti-frutti Productions. This company specialised in innovative children’s theatre, she performed in numerous shows as an actress/dancer and was actively involved in devising, choreographing and developing several characters within each production.
Tanya is currently artistic director of Cusan Theatre Productions. (formerly Salsa Theatre Productions) The company presents original works, which expand upon the vocabulary of salsa and South American dance styles. The work is a combination of contemporary dance theatre, puppetry and song.

‘La Carmela’ a tale of love that evoked a strong sense of the drama of Latin culture, she continued with the exploration of combining and fusing popular South American dances with contemporary dance theatre and other dance forms.
‘Valentino’ a series of short Dance theatre pieces exploring the movement possibilities with a life size puppet.
‘Latintastic’ a witty and magical journey into South American Culture, a fabulous combination of dance theatre, puppetry and song.
Education….As artistic director of Salsa Theatre, she has helped to implement a multicultural curriculum including salsa, and other dance styles from South America.
She has also been a guiding force in delivering a programme which offers the ‘FIESTA’ a unique combination of live performances, taster sessions and dancing for everyone.
Tanya is dedicated to asserting the prominence of the arts in our culture, spearheading initiatives to bring dance and theatre into the community and programmes that introduce children and adults alike to the arts.
Dj Lubi's
It is true, she is the first lady of salsa in Yorkshire. Tanya was almost one of the first teachers in the whole UK! 1989 was the year that many of London and Manchester's latino dance teachers started doing classes also. Remember, the 1st wave of teachers were 100% exclusively latinos - they had to be!
I remember going to a salsa workshop ran by Tanya in early 1990, alhtough I have been promoting and djing latin jazz and salsa since 1982, I have no dancing skills.
That's when Tanya and I hooked up. She then started teaching weekly at Granary Wharf and by then already had a strong following. From 1991, anywhere where my latin band Palante were playing, or I was djing salsa, Tanya and her class would turn up and dance.
My clubnight at Cafe Mex in Leeds (now Wire) was running 1993, Tanya and all her class would come down after their salsa class finished.
1995, was the beginning of Casa Latina . Tanya was my only choice for dance teacher because she was integral to the whole evolution of salsa dancing in Yorkshire. she taught Nicolai, Alan, Ces, Om and anyone in Leeds who is 35 and over and dances salsa today.
Tanya was resident at Casa Latina for four years.
Tanya taught Colombian on1 style salsa - the style of salsa danced all over Latin America. Not flash styling wise but quite a lot of fast footwork, very pure latino style. By the mid-90s, the majority of teachers were Cuban style teachers and by the late 90s, the whole on2/mambo/cross body lead style was growing. Not many teachers now teach the pure Colombian salsa style.
I'm glad she still has packed classes. her following is very loyal.

INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS;
Last updated: Thu, 07-Jan-2010
Our enthusiastic team of teachers/dancers provides an action packed programme throughout the year, including Intensive workshop's, which are aimed towards dancers with a minimum 4 weeks experience. Each two hour intensive class is taken exclusively by Pattie Amos (UKA) and Alan Bull (UKA) and numbers are restricted. Currently we only run two of the five levels of class available at each intensive workshop and classes at these events are very popular. Our next Intensive workshop features a two hour class for the, 'Starters Plus' level, from 11am - 1pm, plus a 'Beginners' class from 1.30pm - 3.30pm. The event takes place at All Saints church hall All Saints Road, Peterborough and due to the restricted numbers, payment of £15 per class, is required when booking your place.
Note: Only a few places are now remaining, so if you would like to take part and don't want to be dissappointed, book your place at your next class :)
It’s all change at everybodysalsa
Last updated: Thu, 07-Jan-2010
As from Wednesday 18th June ALL everybodysalsa weekly class times will start 15 minutes later.
The change is to give people a better chance to arrive for the start of their class. All 7.30 classes will now start at 7.45pm and the 8.30 classes will start at 8.45pm. Apart from the new start times, we will continue to follow the same format of a 50 minute class, plus warm up. A further change taking place at ALL weekly clubs from Wednesday 18th June will be a small rise in the entrance fee. Rising costs and restructuring of our expenses payments to volunteers mean that we do need to increase our prices; but we also realise that a lot of people are struggling with the rising cost of food and petrol etc, so we are keeping the rise as small as possible, just 50p. So from the 18th June 2008, the entrance fee for class and club will be £5.50 and the club only £3.50, still a lot cheaper than Ceroc, or even a trip to the cinema.

Charity Ball raises ÂŁ1200.00
Last updated: Thu, 07-Jan-2010
everybodysalsa.com handed over cheques totalling £1200.00 to local charity SENSE and to a project to equip a school in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Representatives Silvia Welford, area manager of SENSE and Theadore Mfuni, of Menilek music, who is organising the school project, were presented with the much needed cash by Pattie Amos (UKA) and Alan Bull (UKA), during the regular Monday night salsa classes, on Monday 13th August 2007, at EDWARDS BAR, Broadway Peterborough.
The money was raised by holding a Mid Summer Salsa Ball, at The Polish club in Church Street, Stanground, Peterborough, on Saturday 7th July and topped up with profits from our three, weekly salsa club’s at Edwards Bar, The City Club and The Griffin Hotel, March.
The Ball was a great success, with over 140 people attending, many of them wearing fancy dress, in keeping with the Myths and Legends theme and we would like to thank everyone who attended, because it’s your attendance money that has been used to make these donations possible.
The next everybodysalsa.com party night, to be held at the same venue, will include a great salsa performance from guest teacher – Thomas O’Flaherty, will have a WILD WEST THEME, with prizes for the best costume and includes a FREE fruit buffet, is scheduled for Saturday 15th September, so I reckon that it just might be time to get of your horse and dance, dance, dance!

Intensive workshops
Last updated: Thu, 07-Jan-2010
A big thank you to everyone who attended the intensive workshop on Saturday 19th May 2007 and we hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did. The next everybodysalsa intensive workshops take place on Saturday 20th October and will be the last one of the year. As usual, we will run two classes, back to back, between 11am and 3.30pm at St Marks Church Hall, (opposite the Harvester Pub) Lincoln Road, Peterborough, PE1 2SN. These workshop's are aimed at dancers, who would like to polish their tequnique, possibly in prparation to move up to the next level. They are held aproxomately every eight week's and cover in detail, many of the elements that are apropriate for your level of class and where possible, we will introduce you to something, a little more challanging than your usual weekly class. Each class within the workshop, consists of two x two hour salsa session's and numbers are strictly limited, to ensure a good teacher/pupil ratio. Both classes will be taken exclusively by Pattie Amos(UKA) and Alan Bull(UKA) and the investment for each two hour class will again be just £12, which is payable in advance.
New booking proceedure:
In a change to May's proceedure, we will name the featured classes now. They will be Starters Plus, at 11am and Beginners(3) at 1.30pm and as this removes any uncertainty, as to which classes will feature, we would appreciate payment with your registration.

Salsa Machine Profiles
Maria Santos-Richmond
Maria is mainly known for her elegant salsa styling and attention to detail when instructing students. What most people don’t know is that she was dancing before she was born – Maria, with some help from her mum, actually ran a ballet school at the age of 16, went on to do contemporary and modern and tap dance and become a full member of the NATD. Her next calling in life was Christianity, and subsequently after completing a degree in English went on to become Head of Humanities in a Hertfordshire secondary school. Discovering salsa ignited a spark inside her, and it has now become her release on the hectic life as a school mistress. Maria said “I specifically chose not to follow a profession where I had to dance to earn a living – because I loved it so much”, however dancing of all guises, including street, jazz and Tango, has been a passion theme throughout her life. Maria’s inimitable style has become a trademark of Salsa Machine, the club she runs with husband Ben in Harpenden. Maria “I love teaching, and especially teaching salsa, and get as much from teaching my students as they do from learning from me – and we’re so lucky to have such dedicated students!”
Ben Santos-Richmond
Ben’s reputations for cool moves, precise and friendly style of teaching are the main reasons for his popularity as an instructor in the Hertfordshire area. Also known as THE salsa DJ this end of London, Ben has also acted as consultant choreographer to Granada TV. Ben is widely known as Maria’s sidekick husband, and although Ben is the driving force behind Salsa Machine, is relatively new to salsa. Bitten by the salsa bug his dance genes sprung into action – his parents were accomplished in the field of Ballroom with many medals, and his dad at the age of 80 still heads up the local tap dancing school! Ben’s founding was in martial arts where he made black-belt in record time whilst doing a BSc degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Doing martial arts, and sport through his life “has given me the precision, balance and composure to understand and teach salsa”. Teaching salsa, with his wife Maria, is Ben’s main passion in life – second only to his wife of course!

The move from the Whitemoor Centre to the Griffin, was prompted by a rather sudden and large hike in venue hire cost. The new venue is a lot easier to find and get to, so we hope will attract more people, which will enable us to put on bigger and better events.
Salsa has really taken off in March this year as more and more people have found out how much fun it is and we are very excited about this great new venue, it is very easy to find and the management are so keen that they want to join in the classes too! The Hotel’s newly refurbished `raffles nightspot`, will be completed in time for the launch, so why not come along and see what all the fuss is about.
Note: For those of you that have been asking when we will start an improvers class in March, the answer is, later this year, if standards continue to rise as they have been doing there :)

A VERY BIG THANK YOU

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone who turned out for the third, annual everybodysalsa Charity Christmas Ball, in aid of the Peterborough Samaritans and especially to those of you who took the trouble to dress up and make a great evening even better.
Thanks to our guest teachers, Ces and Kerry, and Ian and Anita, and congratulations to Darrel and Jo for winning the prestigious best dressed Pirate and Piratess competition. Commiserations to Hans, who unfortunately had to be disqualified for sporting a bigger parrot than mine!! But the most outstanding person of the evening has to be, trainee teacher Katherine, who managed to perform an excellent dance display, even though she had less than 4 weeks to learn the routine, and very limited free time to practice, so to pull off such a good performance in front of a crowd and on a stage that was at least one meter too short and which had a surface that more resembled the surface of the moon, than a dance floor! Was outstanding, so very well done my dear.
We are always on the look out for ways to improve what we do, and welcome your comments, so please let us know what you thought of the evening, the act’s classes, music, venue, etc, you know, that sort of thing, as by helping us, you put us in a better place to help you J
The next charity ball is scheduled for Saturday 16th June, so make a date in your diary’s and watch this space to discover who the guest teachers will be, and of cause, the all important dress code for the evening!!
